Mentor Program

It’s the mission of the Fredericksburg City Public Schools Mentor Program to provide information, support, and encouragement for the success of educators.

The reality of working in a public school classroom — applying theoretical knowledge, developing effective instructional strategies, meeting the needs of each student, incorporating changing curriculum frameworks, developing high stakes assessment, integrating emerging technology, and remaining sensitive to societal issues — may be one of the profoundly challenging transitions faced by teachers in their professional careers.

Our mentor program includes first- and second-year teachers, teachers with teaching experiences in a different setting, and graduated assistance for our third-year teachers with our University of Mary Washington partners. Our class of mentees may also include teachers with more than three years of teaching experience who choose to self-refer to the program.

Research indicates that divisions that provide effective mentoring support typically attract the most capable candidates, who will stay with the division and improve student performance.
