Exciting news from James Monroe! Please join us in celebrating eight outstanding teachers, including one RISE educator, who have successfully completed the Graduated Assistance Program through our partnership with UMW. This program empowers third-year teachers to collaborate with UMW instructional supervisors, reflecting on their practices and driving professional growth.
Ms. Cuevas-Orlando, Mr. Hanks, Mr. Brown, Mr. Torres, Mr. Ferrara, Ms. Morrison, Ms. Shah, and Mr. Thibeault began their journey by identifying areas of focus within their classrooms. Yesterday, they proudly presented their professional goals, the strategies they implemented, and the impactful results they achieved.

Jennifer Bunn, FCPS Lead School Social Worker and McKinney Vento Liaison, was the keynote speaker at the annual Brisben Center breakfast on November 7, 2024. Her presentation, "Through the Eyes of a Child: The Heartbreak of Homelessness In Our Public Schools," highlighted the increasing number of students identified each year as meeting the educational definition of homelessness throughout our region, but especially in FCPS. The Brisben Center houses many families and children in our region and provides a bridge to permanent housing.

JM students had the opportunity to learn from the Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) experts from the McMahon EOD Training Center at Fort Walker on Wednesday.
Technology Teacher William Fields invited the visitors to show JM students the Army's robots and technology in operation as well as learn about the military and the EOD field. The robotics students learned a great deal first-hand from experts in this beyond-the-classroom demonstration.
Attending from Fort Walker were: SFC William Bish, SFC Joshua Gump, SSG Brandon Goodner, SFC Joshua Kenne, and SSG Ian Lising.

An adventurous spirit, Marilyn has lived in four different states, fearlessly embracing each new experience.
