Tony Wishard, Hugh Mercer Elementary School Assistant Principal and Sandy Gillenwater, Director of Family & Community Engagement and Special Initiatives presented at the 2024 National Family Engagement Symposium in Raleigh, North Carolina last week. The presentations highlighted many of the FCPS Family & Community Engagement Committee division events, participation in specific Fredericksburg community events, and the journey of welcoming our over 200 local partnerships.
Walker-Grant Orchestra Takes First
The WGMS Orchestra, led by Dr. Bartram, won First Place in their division at Saturday's Music in the Marks competition at Busch Gardens this past weekend. They also earned Best Overall Orchestra from the panel of judges. Music in the Parks hosts the most popular school music competitions in the country, and Busch Gardens is one of their primary sites. The orchestra competed against schools from VA, NC, PA, MD, and NJ.
JM sophomores and juniors learned about A. Linwood Holton Governor’s School for next school year.

Calendar Update
Monday, May 13, 2024, will change from an instructional day for students to a professional development day for faculty and staff. Faculty and staff will use this valuable time for critical planning for a new curriculum the division is implementing during the 2024-2025 school year.
