Principal Petty's Weekly Update: 01/12/2025

Good evening,

This is Marcus Petty, Principal of James Monroe High School, with an important message:

Happy New Year, and welcome back to a new semester at JM! We hope everyone had a restful winter break, enjoyed the winter weather, and is ready to dive into an exciting and productive second half of the school year.

As we return, we want to remind everyone of the importance of attendance, punctuality, and academic focus. Being present and on time every day sets the tone for success. Parents, please partner with us in encouraging students to embrace our RCD school foundations: Respect, Engage, and Prepare—or as we proudly say here, REP JAYEM. Together, we can maintain a positive and successful environment for all students.

Reminders for the New Semester:

  • Yondr Bags: Students must lock their phones in their Yondr Bags to maintain a distraction-free learning environment. Please remind students to handle their Yondr Bags with care, as they are responsible for any lost or damaged bags.

  • Preparation for Success: This semester, we will continue working hard to prepare students for graduation, SOLs, CTE certifications, exams, and passing all classes.

  • Starting Monday, students can become Attendance MVPs by missing no more than 2 days a month. At the end of each month, students who qualify will be entered to win prizes.

  • Report cards will be sent home with students on Friday, January 17.  Please review them with your child.

  • Attached to the email portion of this alert is the updated sports schedule, our delayed opening schedule just in case, and a flyer regarding registration details for kindergarten.

  • Lastly, Monday, January 13, will be an A Day.

Parents, we ask that you stay engaged by frequently reviewing your student’s grades and communicating with teachers as needed. Your involvement is critical to helping students meet their goals.

We are excited to welcome everyone back! Let’s make this semester our best one yet!

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us here at the school.

One Community/One JM!

Have a great evening!
