Interim Principal Wheeler's Weekly Update: 02/18/2025

Good morning, Hugh Mercer Families,

This is Mrs. Wheeler, your interim principal, with a few important reminders for the week ahead. I am excited to get to know the HMES students and families and I look forward to working together to create a positive and engaging learning environment where every child can thrive.

WIDA Testing continues throughout February. This assessment helps us better understand and support our language learners. Please ensure your child gets plenty of rest and is ready to do their best each day.

With flu season in full swing, we want to work together to keep our students healthy and learning. If your child is feeling unwell and running a fever, please keep them home to rest and recover. Remember to notify the office, as clear communication helps us support both your child and our school community. Attendance Notes

Upcoming Events

February 3-28: Black History Month Celebrations
February 17: No School (Presidents' Day Holiday)
February 19 (UPDATE): Fredericksburg City Schools Kindergarten Registration, from 5:00-7:00 PM
February 20: Walker-Grant Middle School CTE Pathway Night 5:30-7:30 PM (W-GMS CTE Flyer)

FCPS is closely monitoring this week’s weather. If inclement weather requires remote learning days, students will need to complete instructional learning packets, which will be sent home on Tuesday. These packets should only be completed if a remote learning day is officially announced. Once school resumes, packets must be returned to help us account for attendance during these days.  Please encourage your child to do their best, as these assignments reinforce key learning concepts. Stay tuned throughout the week for updates via email, phone calls, and school messaging systems regarding any schedule changes.

I look forward to a great week ahead and getting to know the HMES community! Thank you for your support in making our school a place where learning, leadership, and Patriot P.R.I.D.E. thrive.

Warmly,
Mrs. Wheeler
