The Fredericksburg City School Board approved the appointment of Dr. Jacinta Calzada-Mayronne as the new principal of Lafayette Elementary School on December 2, 2024.
Calzada-Mayronne brings a wealth of experience and a demonstrated commitment to fostering inclusive, supportive, and achievement-oriented school environments. She has served as an elementary, special education, and middle school teacher; a PK-8 special education coordinator; and, most recently as a high school assistant principal.
She holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Management from Drexel University, where she earned recognition for her research on inclusive education and strategies for improving educational outcomes for students with diverse needs.
Calzada-Mayronne has dedicated her career to advancing student success and strengthening family engagement. She has excelled in creating innovative student support programs and fostering a positive school culture. Her leadership roles reflect her expertise in managing multidisciplinary teams and developing systems that enhance student services, improve attendance, and bolster academic achievement. Notably, she has spearheaded initiatives that reduced chronic absenteeism by 14 percentage points and increased access to Career and Technical Education (CTE) certifications for students.
Calzada-Mayronne’s passion for family engagement is evident in her work with parents and community stakeholders. She has partnered with organizations like Mary Washington University to present trauma-informed classroom strategies and collaborated with families to navigate special education processes, ensuring equitable access to resources and opportunities.

Calzada-Mayronne will officially assume her duties as principal in January 2025.
