Students missing school is a big problem for schools across the Commonwealth. When students miss 10% or more of the school year, they are chronically absent. The chronic absenteeism rate has been on the rise since the pandemic.
In response, FCPS has initiated an attendance committee that is tasked with finding ways to get students to attend school more regularly.
Some actions include:
Positive calls home to recognize efforts regarding improved attendance
Incentives for students & families working to improve their attendance
Book rewards and other incentives like parties, special passes, game tickets, etc.
Positive competitions between classrooms special recognitions at schoolwide events
Recognition from teachers & school staff
The school with the best attendance rate will be recognized each month.
In the month of February, Walker-Grant led FCPS in attendance! Keep an eye out for the attendance banner outside your school!
