   Dr. Marceline Catlett

Dr. Marceline Catlett, Fredericksburg City Public Schools' 25th Division Superintendent, is a veteran educator with more than 40 years of experience at FCPS. Dr. Catlett's passion for children and education began at an early age. As a member of the James Monroe High School Class of 1977, she held leadership roles in Student Council and other clubs.

Dr. Catlett's academic journey continued at Virginia State University, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. She went on to earn a Master of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Virginia. Dr. Catlett holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and has also received certificates from Oxford University, Harvard University, and Howard University.

Dr. Catlett's career with Fredericksburg City Public Schools began in 1981 at Walker-Grant Middle School, where she worked as a 6th Grade teacher. She moved into school administration in 1990, serving as an Administrative Assistant. Dr. Catlett has built a legacy at FCPS, having held various leadership positions over the years, from Director of Curriculum and Instruction to Assistant Superintendent for Instruction and Personnel to Deputy Superintendent in 2012. She brings high personal integrity, motivation, and creativity to the school system. Her motto is "Moving forward and upward. Leading at the speed of change."

Highly lauded as a servant leader, Dr. Catlett has many times been recognized for her notable achievements in education, leadership, and community service:

  • 2011 Fredericksburg Regional Boys & Girls Club of the Greater Washington Area Outstanding Service to Youth Award

Dr. Catlett currently serves on many boards and committees in the Fredericksburg area, including Ready Region North Central, UMW's Community Advisory Committee on Diversity, Delta Sigma Sorority's Fredericksburg Area Alumni Chapter, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, Fredericksburg Area Youth Development Foundation Sunshine Ballpark, the Fredericksburg Host Lions Club, the Fredericksburg Symphony Orchestra Board, and the Central Rappahannock Heritage Center Board.
