Fredericksburg City Public Schools (FCPS) is dedicated to providing comprehensive support for students with disabilities. Our Special Education Department works collaboratively with families and educators to meet individual learning needs through personalized, inclusive educational programs that foster academic, social, and emotional growth.
FCPS offers a range of services tailored to meet each student's unique needs, including:
Individualized Education Programs (IEPs): These personalized learning plans are designed to support academic and social goals while ensuring access to the general curriculum.
Related Services: To support IEP goals, services such as speech-language therapy, occupational therapy, and psychological counseling are available.
Assistive Technology: Our team evaluates and provides tools and resources to enhance students' communication and learning experiences.
Transition Planning: Transition services support students moving from high school to post-secondary education, employment, and independent living, ensuring readiness for life after graduation.
FCPS encourages families to participate actively in their child’s education through regular communication, support networks, and informational sessions. Our Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) meets throughout the school year, offering parents opportunities to discuss services, share experiences, and advise on educational matters affecting students with disabilities.
